Surface Capacitive Sensor Technology

Noted for fast response times, Surface Capacitive sensor technology employs a glass substrate with transparent metal oxide coating. Electricity is applied to all four corners of the sensor, and a pattern of electrodes around the periphery of the touch screen distribute the voltage to form a uniform electric field across the conductive surface.

The relative magnitude of current diminished as it moves further from the corners. A finger touch draws a minute amount of current from the surface and is measured by the controller. The sensor's controller calculates the X-Y coordinate of the touch as a ratio of the magnitude of electricity at all four corners.

Surface Capacitive: Key Points

  • accurate and sensitive touch performance
  • optical clarity very good to excellent with light transmission 88-92%
  • high resistance to condensation, temperature, contaminants
  • high durability
  • excellent dragging performance
  • light or minimal touch for activation
  • supports only finger or tethered pen touch
  • power loss and restart may require calibration
